During the consultation, you will receive a comprehensive eye examination that includes a microscopic examination of the eye, mapping of your cornea's shape and thickness, wavefront measurements, eye pressure measurement and refraction measurement. A test for eye dominance and monovision tolerance will be performed if you are in the presbyopic age range. Eye drops will be used to dilate the pupil for a full microscopic examination of the inside of the eye. This may make reading difficult for the rest of the day and increase light sensitivity and glare. You may wish to have someone drive you home.

If you are a candidate for refractive surgery, the doctor will discuss the procedures that suit you best. You will also be advised about your likely outcome and made aware of possible risks and side effects.
